How to Watch
All coordination is done via our Discord server. Email
info@spookyfest.org for access with
your name and who invited you. You can generally watch one of two ways:
- If you are local to the Philly area: we will occasionally
meet up to watch the movies together in person, all coordinated on Discord.
- If you are not local / for most watch events:
- Watch on Plex: a Spookyfest Plex server has been created for
everyone’s convenience. The upside is content is always available,
while the downside is streaming quality may vary with your connection
speed.
- Watch online: If you have the means, you can always access the
movies via online streaming services (Netflix, Amazon Prime, Shudder, Tubi,
etc.). The upside is quality is usually top notch, while the downside is
content may not always be available depending on your subscriptions (or
lack thereof).
How the Films Were Chosen
Each year, we try to create a diverse list of horror films to get a good
representation of what’s out there and to keep it fresh. We keep the
following things in mind while creating our schedule:
- Release era — we want a good range from the very
first silent horror movies ever made to modern films releasing this year
- Genre — we want to make sure we have a nice mix of
every horror genre, including monster movies, slasher flicks, thrillers,
suspense, anthology, psychological horror, zombie movies, body horror, etc.
- Quality — we tended to prefer movies which were
well-received, though exceptions have been made.
- Country of origin — we want to watch films from all
over the world, not just the USA
- Familiarity — we want to include some classics but
also open up newcomers to some of the more obscure and weirder movies out
there
- Series — we generally prefer not to have multiple
entries from the same series year-over-year
